Good evening, Rhonda! =) I am following your blog off of the chat transcript from this week's video conference. I do not have the camera or microphone to join in "real-time".
ReplyDeleteI think your topic is interesting. I am not directly involved in state testing as I teach second grade. Notice I said "not directly" involved. I know the foundation I am building with my students is vital to their success as they move up through the grades and on the state assessments.
At my district, we are always meeting with our district curriculum team (departmentalized meetings) to discuss how we can work together vertically to improve our students' performance. I hope your district has the same support system as ours.
Good luck!
Tamara

Thank you. It is a time consuming process and hopefully well worth the effort and time in a few months. We keep throwing money at programs and never seem to see any success. Maybe a concentrated look at the data will help.
DeleteHow do you add a "join" button? I have selected all public being able to access this site. What in the world am I missing when it comes to this blogging thing?
Rhonda your plan looks really good! It's precise, to the point and easy to read. I noticed you added the ESL population to the evaluations column. When I was a middle school teacher I had the Shelter Social Studies class and it was a difficult class. I had three different grade levels in one class and I was suppose to teach 8th U.S. History TEKS to non-English readers and writers. I was so afraid of teaching that class, but the truth is I enjoyed so much. We focused on English/Spanish cognates, frayer model vocabulary cards and my students demonstrated progress at each district benchmark assessment.
DeleteYou're right we need to look at data. We also need to evaluate how we as teachers are teaching and reflect on ways to improve.
Good Luck!

ReplyDeleteRhonda,
ReplyDeleteI was finally able to find you:)
You have a solid action research plan. I was just wondering if you have tools and resources in place for reteaching and for those students that are not on target? I look forward to your findings. Good luck with everything.

Rhonda-
ReplyDeleteI enjoy reading your thoughts on the Lamar discussion board and your blog. You are very thoughtful and thorough with your submissions. Your action research project is quite similar to mine. I am looking at how to identify students who need interventions before they take the EOCs in Bio, Chem, Alg I, and Geometry. I am interested to hear how you are collecting and analyzing the data. Do the teachers make their own unit tests or do they come from the district? One question that I had for you-will you also look at strategies developed to help students improve. In one post I saw that, but then your plan only stated information about analyzing data. I am interested in how you are planning to study successful strategies for pulling those scores up.
